The Chilo Foundation is excited to have you visiting us. In addition to the monthly outreach programs at San Julian Park, we are excited to introduce to you our #chilokids program where we take groups of 30-150 homeless children and their parents to explore the world outside of Downtown Los Angeles. Our goal is to provide parent-child worthy experiences at places like Disneyland, and Frasier Park, where we hold a 3 day overnight retreat.
Louis Chavez started this movement to teach his family the gift that can only be received through the act of giving from yourself to a person in need of help. With enough supplies he purchased earlier that day from Food for Less, he and his family proceeded to make a couple hundred sandwiches which they distributed in Skid Row later that day. It was hard work, and not everyone was happy to receive a cold sandwich, but as Louis promised, the overwhelming feeling of gratitude from most of the people served was a gift beyond description. Emboldened by their successes, the 7 heroes continued their mission and became consistent with arriving at the same location and the same time, and the little group started to get noticed and others began reaching out to assist them from both outside and within the community. The group began to grow and started to change the menu and added toiletries. This is still, today, the beginning of an extraordinary mission we will experience together!
As an organization we continue to grow, we stay true to our mission and hope to partner up with other organization so can build a network of organizations all centered with strategies to assist our homeless population. We want to build a network of organizations that can work as one to develop and share strategies to end homelessness for good. If we all just did a little bit to help our homeless population we would soon realize the our dreams become a reality. Below you will see the list of organization we are working with , together we are finding solution for societies most vulnerable.
Every month, close to the last Sunday of each month, our Chilo family sets up an event where we serve approximately 1,000 guests, give out over 2,000 pieces of clothing, shoes and (on Christmas) toys for our homeless families and individuals in the heart of skid row at San Julian Park located in the Skid Row Neighborhood of Downtown Los Angeles.
#Chilokids is the pride and joy of the chilo foundation. As a group our volunteers and amazing donors and sponsors gather funds to take homeless children on experiences and adventures to bring joy into their lives. e dedicate a day out of the month to plan different trips like Disneyland, Raging Waters and many other magical experiences. This brings them hope and love into their lives.
Youth Program is a group of teens that have experienced homelessness with their family in the past. A youth group that supports and bonds together to encourage current homeless teens that join us on our experiences and instill hope for them to continue in the difficult journey homeless families face on a daily bass.
